Website Designer Brief

  1. Introduction

New Lodge Arts is a community-based arts organisation based in North Belfast, working primarily with children and young people through creative programmes, workshops, and projects. Our work is youth-led, socially engaged, and deeply connected to place.

We are seeking an experienced and values-aligned website designer to design and deliver a new website that reflects the energy, creativity, and impact of our work, while significantly improving clarity, usability, and day-to-day functionality.

    Aims & Objectives

    The new website should:

    - Clearly communicate what New Lodge Arts does and who our programmes are for

    - Make it easy for parents/guardians to find up-to-date programme information quickly

    - Inspire young people through strong visuals and accessible language

    - Demonstrate impact and credibility to funders and stakeholders

    - Reduce the volume of phone/email queries about basic information

    - Be easy for staff to update and maintain

    Target Audiences

The website must balance the needs of multiple audiences. Our priority order is:

    • Parents / Guardians – looking for schedules, age ranges, costs, and how to sign up
    • Young People – looking for creative opportunities and inspiration
    • Adults - interested in participating in projects, looking for what’s on and how to sign up
    • Funders & Stakeholders – looking for evidence of impact, professionalism, and reach
    • Local Community & Partners – looking for collaboration opportunities and context

The homepage should immediately orient visitors and direct them to the information most relevant to them.

    Brand

The website should feel friendly, inclusive, and rooted in community — never corporate or overly formal. Visual storytelling is essential. We want it to be:

    • Welcoming
    • Creative
    • Youth focussed
    • Community focused
    • Professional

    Scope of Work

    We expect the designer to:

    - Lead on visual design and user experience

    - Propose a clear site structure and navigation

    - Design key page templates (e.g. Homepage, Programmes, Gallery, About Us, Contact)

    - Work collaboratively with our team to shape content

    - Build the site using a user-friendly CMS (e.g. WordPress or similar)

    - Ensure the site is responsive and accessible

    Budget & Timeline

We anticipate a modest, charity-appropriate budget and welcome proposals that clearly outline costs and phases.

An indicative timeline (subject to discussion):

    - Design & discovery phase

    - Build & content population

    - Testing and launch

    Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for a designer who:

    - Has experience designing for community, arts, or youth organisations

    - Understands accessibility and inclusive design

    - Is collaborative and comfortable working with non-technical teams

    - Values clarity, storytelling, and strong visual identity

    How to Respond

    - A short overview of your approach
