Nine Nights

Saturday 24th September 2015

New Lodge Arts were delighted to be involved in Arts Ektas project – Nine Nights festival inspired by Diwali, the Indian Festival of Light.

Produced by award winning outdoor arts experts Walk the Plank, Nine Nights is a captivating story of hope inspired by an ancient Indian myths and legends. We follow the devastation of a land torn apart by war and ruled by fear, only to be overcome by a true warrior goddess in an epic battle of good over evil.

Staged across Belfast City Centre, Nine Nights took place on Saturday 24th October where family audiences will be immersed in a visually thrilling experience of music, dance, live theatrical narration, fiery pyrotechnics, light projections and sumptuous special effects as hundreds of community participants, dancers and musicians join together in the spirit of storytelling and contemporary celebration.

Nisha Tandon, Director of ArtsEkta said the story which inspired Nine Nights is a much-loved classic,"even if you are completely unfamiliar with Indian culture" the festival would still have widespread appeal.

The evening began with an 800-strong costumed procession departing from Custom House Square and making its way to Belfast City Hall that was specially lit up for the festival.

The grounds of city hall were packed for the show which included original music, Indian dancers, lighting effects and dramatic pyrotechnics.
